Debate Sparked by National Film Awards 2023: Redditors Favor Vicky Kaushal of 'Sardar Udham' over Allu Arjun for Best Actor Win"

National Film Awards

The joy of Allu Arjun's fans was boundless as he emerged as the inaugural Telugu actor to secure the Best Actor recognition at the 69th National Film Awards. Despite the celebration, numerous online users swiftly expressed their belief that Vicky Kaushal's performance in "Sardar Udham" was more deserving. Furthermore, some also asserted that Suriya's "Jai Bhim" was unjustly overlooked in the process.

Allu Arjun clinches Best Actor at National Film Awards 2023 for "Pushpa," but online voices lean towards Vicky Kaushal's merit.

Expressing disappointment, one Reddit user stated, "This year's most glaring oversight. Vicky truly embodied Sardar Uddham Singh. I won't even delve into AA's win, but it wouldn't have hurt to honor both of their performances. However, it seems the jury might need a reality check."

Another user's comment carried a different tone, as they remarked, "The haunting Jallianwala Bagh scene in 'Sardar Udham' sends shivers down your spine. Preferring a hyper-masculine role over a freedom fighter's journey for retribution seems to undermine the essence of filmmaking."

Taking a more positive stance, a third user shared, "I'm thrilled that this community is recognizing the immense effort poured in by Vicky and Shoojit in crafting this movie."

In the period drama directed by Shoojit Sircar and co-written by him and Ritesh Shah, Vicky essayed the titular role of Sardar Udham Singh. Alongside him, the film featured Banita Sandhu and Amol Parashar. Skipping traditional theaters, the film premiered directly on Prime Video India in 2021.
