Former South Africa cricket captain Dean Elgar declared his retirement from international cricket, marking the end of a significant era in the sport. Elgar, who led South Africa in 17 Test matches, will bid adieu to his cricketing career after the upcoming two-match Test series against India. Across formats, he participated in 92 matches for his country and stands as the 8th-highest run-scorer in Test cricket.

Having debuted for the Proteas back in 2012, Elgar's 12-year journey will conclude with these final games, potentially reaching 86 Test appearances, placing him joint-11th for his side alongside Morne Morkel.

Expressing his sentiments in a release from Cricket South Africa (CSA), Elgar shared, "The Indian home series will be my last, as I've decided to retire from our beautiful game. Cricket has given me immeasurable joy; the Cape Town Test, my last, holds a special place where my Test journey began."
