Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif recently commended Shreyas Iyer for his exceptional performance in recent cricket tournaments. Returning to international cricket during the Asia Cup 2023 after recovering from a back injury, Iyer showcased consistent form and delivered noteworthy innings. Kaif, acknowledging Iyer's achievements, urged critics to shift their focus toward appreciating Iyer's strengths rather than constantly highlighting perceived weaknesses. Expressing his thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), Kaif emphasized, "Shreyas Iyer has demonstrated a phenomenal streak lately. It's high time the world starts recognizing his strengths rather than merely pointing out his weaknesses."

Being part of India's World Cup 2023 campaign, Iyer played a crucial role in batting at the fourth position. Although absent for the entirety of the Australia T20I series, he joined for the last two matches. Indian spinner Ravi Bishnoi emphasized the significance of Iyer's return, anticipating a substantial impact on India's batting lineup. Bishnoi remarked, "His return will significantly bolster our batting lineup. He brings a wealth of experience in T20 cricket and has shown exceptional form in the World Cup. His seniority and experience will undoubtedly benefit us."

Following his return, the 28-year-old cricketer displayed impressive performances, registering three centuries and three half-centuries in ODI cricket. Notably, he scored a century during the World Cup 2023 semifinal against New Zealand and a fifty in the 5th T20I against Australia. Although experiencing a slight setback in the 4th T20I, Iyer played a crucial innings in the final game, contributing 53 runs from 37 balls as an anchor for the team.
