Congress leader Milind Deora's abrupt resignation ends a 55-year association, citing dissatisfaction with Shiv Sena's claim to Mumbai South Lok Sabha. In a surprising turn of events, Milind Deora, a prominent Congress leader, has officially severed ties with the party, ending a 55-year-long association that his family had with the Congress. The departure, announced just before the commencement of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, has sparked political speculations and garnered reactions from key figures within the Congress.

Jairam Ramesh, Congress general secretary, took a not-so-subtle swipe at Milind Deora, highlighting the unwavering loyalty of his father, Murli Deora, to the Congress party. Ramesh reminisced about Murli Deora's commitment, stating, "He had close friends in all political parties but was a stalwart Congressman who always stood by the Congress party — through thick and thin."

The timing of Deora's resignation has raised eyebrows within the Congress, with the party alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi played a role in determining the moment of announcement. Ramesh claimed that Deora's messages and subsequent actions suggested a premeditated decision to leave the party, with the timing strategically influenced by the PM.

Milind Deora, who had won the Mumbai South Lok Sabha seat in 2004 and 2009, expressed dissatisfaction over the Shiv Sena's claim to the constituency. His decision to resign stems from the Shiv Sena's stake in the Mumbai South seat, a concern he intended to discuss with Rahul Gandhi. However, the Congress claims this was a facade, and Deora had already made up his mind to leave.

Confirming his departure, Milind Deora stated, "Today marks the conclusion of a significant chapter in my political journey." He expressed gratitude to party leaders, colleagues, and supporters but hinted at ongoing discussions with his supporters about his next political move.

The Shiv Sena, led by Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray, has staked a claim to the Mumbai South constituency, previously represented by Deora. This move has added a new dimension to the political landscape, intensifying the upcoming general elections in the region.
