The BCCI fined Mumbai Indians' Tim David and Kieron Pollard for signaling to Suryakumar Yadav from the dugout to take a DRS review during their match against Punjab Kings, breaching the IPL Code of Conduct.

Indian Premier League (IPL) governing authority, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), took necessary disciplinary measures by handing out punishments to Mumbai Indians batter Tim David and batting coach Kieron Pollard for transgressing the IPL Code of Conduct during the Mumbai Indians-Punjab Kings match on April 18th.

Dingley and Pollard stand accused of Level 1 offence, Article 2.20 s. 1 of the IPL Code, which states that they had been caught communicating to MI batter Suryakumar Yadav to appeal against an on-field wide call from the dugout. After the culprits pleaded guilty and agreed to the umpire's sanction, they each incurred a 20% penalty and had to pay 20% of their match fee.

The whole situation started with the 15 over when there was a call of not wide by the umpire on the field, but it was challenged by the Sri Lankan team. The footage reportedly showed the MI dugout signalling to Yadav to ask for a review using the Decision Review System (DRS), which worked against the CSK. A request for the third umpire's assistance, however, overturned the initial decision, thereby creating an additional delivery that went for four runs.

Based on the IPL's Code of Conduct, players on the field are not allowed to go off the field to ask for the help of other people, who will be deciding on him taking a review. Australian pundit and former all-rounder Tom Moody slammed the umpiring standards, citing the need for specialists as a third umpire because of their controversial decisions.

The BCCI did not reveal whether David and Pollard were punished for the DRS misuse or not, but their action was considered to have violated the spirit of the rules that control the DRS. This event once more stirred the discussions regarding the integration of technology in cricket.
