The
highly successful 2023 film 'Barbie,' headlined by Margot Robbie and Ryan
Gosling, has become a significant sensation in the entertainment world. This
live-action feature, inspired by Mattel's iconic doll, was initially available
for rental on Amazon Prime Video and Book My Show Stream. Now, Jio Cinema, a
prominent streaming platform, has announced its exclusive premiere of 'Barbie'
on December 21, available in both English and Hindi.
Greta Gerwig's directorial venture, made within a budget ranging from $128-145 million, remarkably earned a staggering $1.386 billion globally. Despite encountering competition at the box office with 'Oppenheimer,' the film created a buzz, leading to the trending 'Barbenheimer' on social media. Alongside Robbie and Gosling, the star-studded cast includes America Ferrera, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, Will Ferrell, and Kate MacKinnon in pivotal supporting roles.

However,
'Barbie' wasn't devoid of controversies before its release. The film sparked
debates, notably concerning its representation of the nine-dash line. Both
Vietnam and The Philippines imposed bans due to the film's portrayal of the
world map, especially its childlike depiction. The Philippines also mandated
blurring the disputed maritime border, a sensitive issue claimed by the
Government of the People's Republic of China.
In this movie, Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling play the archetypal personas of Barbie and Ken, embarking on a journey from the fantastical world of Barbieland to explore self-discovery in the real world.
