Assam's Chief Minister Calls out Former PM's:-
According to Himanta Biswa Sarma, the current Chief Minister of Assam, Manmohan Singh, the former Prime Minister of India, who represented Assam in the Rajya Sabha for 18 years, did not wear Assam's gamosa during official events, including his oath-taking ceremony. In an interview, Sarma questioned Manmohan Singh's lack of respect for the traditional Assamese attire and suggested that wearing it would have sent a positive message to the people of Assam.
Sarma also compared Singh's lack of gamosa-wearing to the fact that former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi did not wear the traditional attire during their official functions either. Sarma believes that Modi, who is often seen wearing a gamosa during important events, has earned greater respect from the people of Assam as a result.
When asked about BJP's substantial growth in the Northeastern part of India, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma politely refused to take credit and opined that he is just a worker (karyakarta). He reserved the highest gratitude for Prime Minister Modi, without whom the feat wouldn't have been possible for BJP.
HBS' comments, however, didn't go well with the opposition. Supriya Shrinate, a Congress representative, expressed concern about Sarma's mental health after he made these remarks, given that Sarma is a former Congress leader.
Many other leaders have also come up with images depicting the former PM of India, Manmohan Singh, donning the red and white Assamese "Gamosa" on various occasions, trying to prove the current CM of Assam wrong.
