Based on a police complaint filed by Karishma's brother Deepak, Karishma allegedly informed her family on Friday that she had been beaten by her husband Vikas and his parents and brothers. Deepak made the decision to register a complaint because he believed Karishma had abused him. She had passed away by the time they arrived at the residence to check on her.

Following their December 2022 marriage, Vikas and Karishma resided in Ecotech-3, a Greater Noida village in KhedaChauganpur, with Vikas's family. According to reports, Deepak's side gave the groom's family an SUV and a gold piece worth eleven lakh rupees during the wedding. However, he claimed that Vikas's family had mistreated her both physically and mentally over the years in addition to insisting on further payments.

He says that after she had a daughter, the violence increased, and in an attempt to resolve their problems, the two families attended multiple panchayat meetings in Vikas' village. Even after receiving an additional ₹ 10 lakh from Karishma's family, according to Deepak, the harassment continued.

Recently, Karishma received a new request from Vikas's family, asking for a Fortuner automobile and an additional ₹ 21 lakh.
