The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has issued warnings regarding Cyclone Mocha, stating that it might take a 'very dangerous’ turn.

The WMO, which is a United Nations specialized agency that conducts research on  weather and climate, has informed on its official website that a very severe cyclonic storm Mocha is intensifying rapidly in the Bay of Bengal and threatening coastal areas of Bangladesh and Myanmar. If it hits the coastal areas as badly as predicted by the WMO, the cyclone might cause floods, violent winds, and possible landslides in the affected areas.

As of now, the biggest concern for the world is that among Bangladesh’s affected areas lies Cox Bazar, which is home to about one million Rohingya refugees, making it the world’s largest refugee camp. In Myanmar’s Rakhine region, nearly six million people live in the areas that are predicted to be affected by Cyclone Mocha. The low-lying areas are prone to strong winds, heavy rain, flooding and landslide. The WMO has been providing meteorological support to humanitarian agencies that are working to provide humanitarian aid to the people in the areas affected by Cyclone Mocha.

Media officer and spokesperson of WMO, Clare Nullis, while speaking at the Geneva press briefing said, "It's a very dangerous cyclone and...it's associated with violent winds".

Media officer and spokesperson of WMO, Clare Nullis, while speaking at the Geneva press briefing said, "It's a very dangerous cyclone and...it's associated with violent winds". She informed the media about the 2-2.5 meters storm surge that will take place over the weekend. She added, "There will be major impacts both ahead and after landfall for potentially hundreds of thousands of the world's most vulnerable people". There is a high probability that Cyclone Mocha might submerge the low-lying areas of North Myanmar and parts of Bangladesh which are prone to flash floods and landslides.

The World Health Organization has equipped itself with around 33 mobile medical teams, 40 ambulances and emergency surgery as well as cholera kits. WHO's Margaret Harris stated, “If this turns into the level of cyclone we fear, we really need to be ready."
