Uddhav Thackeray v The BJP:-
The Maha Vikas Aghadi’s Vajramuth rally on Sunday (16th April 2023) in Nagpur, Maharashtra, saw a fierce comeback by the Shiv Sena led by former Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray against the BJP .
What did Uddhav Thackeray Say?
Uddhav Thackeray highlighted the double standards of the BJP by showing that the party chanted the Hanuman Chalisa on one hand and visited mosques to listen to Qawwali on the other. With this, Thackeray contended that the right form of Hindutva is "sacrificing life for the country."
He condemned the action of the BJP sprinkling cow urine over the place where the party was about to conduct its public meeting in Sambhajinagar. Thackeray took the chance to mock the BJP by urging them to consume cow urine to restore their wisdom.
Furthermore, Uddhav Thackeray tagged the ideology of the BJP as ‘Gaumutradhari Hindutva.’
Uddhav Thackeray not only attacked the BJP’s wrong portrayal of Hindutva but also shed light on the sinking democracy. He pointed out that the BJP’s democracy only serves the purpose of helping the BJP’s close associates, with fingers pointed toward Adani.
Furthermore, Thackeray stated that when leaders come forward to question the BJP, they are disqualified from the Parliament or face the fear of being put behind bars.
Background of the Dispute
The BJP leaders had heavily criticized the Shiv Sena for joining hands with the Congress Party. The grounds on which the Shiv Sena-Congress coalition receives criticism is the "assumption" that Uddhav Thackeray lost his ‘Hindutva’ by collaborating with Congress.
However, it is not the first time Uddhav Thackeray’s allegiance to Hindutva been questioned by the BJP. Even after the Palghar mob lynching incident, when the then Maharashtra CM Thackeray had denied any communal angle associated with the incident, the BJP questioned Thackeray’s Hindu credentials.
Thackeray has repeatedly clarified his stance on the issue. On an earlier occasion, he said, “When Hindus were sleeping, it was my father (Balasaheb Thackeray) who woke them…Our Hinduism is the right type, and we believe that we don’t do any injustice, and if injustice is being done, then don’t bear it.”
