The village situated in the far-flung Anantnag District of Jammu and Kashmir has adopted this innovative idea to save the environment. The Panchayat of the village headed by Sarpanch Farooq Ahmad Ganai is the brainchild behind this initiative, who is a lawyer by profession.

As per this initiative, anyone who gives 20 quintals of plastic will be rewarded with a gold coin. This incentive of providing gold coins lured the people into submitting as much plastic as possible thereby, making Sadiwara plastic free in just a span of two weeks.

In an interview, the advocate said, "I started a slogan in my village to give polythene in return for a reward. I took the initiative to clean rivers and streams. Now, everyone in the village helped us to clear the sites."

In many videos surfacing online people of Sadiwara can be seen diligently picking up discarded plastic items across public areas to help make the village plastic free.

This campaign was undertaken keeping in view the proposed ban on single-use plastic under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan 2 initiated by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, the Assistant Commissioner of Development, Anantnag, Riyaz Ahmad told also adding that this campaign motivated people to clean their village and make it polythene and garbage free.

As the campaign became popular, other villages also after getting inspired by this initiative adopted the same anti-plastic movement.
