This huge space rock has a height range of 120 to 270 meters. Making it as lofty as the Gherkin in London or as large as 90 elephants. Despite the enormous size, it was only discovered on march 16, and on April 2 its elliptical route was determined.

NASA is now monitoring the asteroid as it gets closer, but there's no need to get frightened because it won't get much closer than 3,000,000 kilometers, or 0.02  astronomical units, to the earth's surface.

But what is disturbing, is the report by NASA about asteroid 2023 DW, which was discovered on February 2023  and will come close to the earth's surface on 14 February 2046, 23 years from now. A statement released by Asteroid watch is that "We've been tracking a new asteroid named 2023 DW that has a very small chance of impacting Earth in 2046. Often when new objects are first discovered, it takes several weeks of data to reduce the uncertainties and adequately predict their orbits years into the future.”

The diameter of 2023 DW is nearly 50 metres.

Asteroid 2023 DW  currently occupies the top spot on the European Space Agency's risk list for near-Earth objects with about a one-in-625 chance of colliding with our planet on valentine's day in 2046..“Orbit analysts will continue to monitor asteroid 2023 DW and update predictions as more Data comes in”.
