The Most Powerful Generator from Honeywell Signs First Contract with a Startup

On Wednesday, Honeywell International will reveal the first purchase of its most potent generator, which will power the hybrid electric freight airship developed by a European-Canadian business.

To use its one-megawatt generator on the 200-meter-long vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) airship intended for the heavy load transport sector. Honeywell announced that it had established an agreement with Flying Whales Airships Quebec Inc. In a statement, Honeywell omitted to mention the deal's worth.


Numerous startups are developing electric or hybrid aircraft to achieve aviation's long-term climate goals. According to Dave Shilliday, vice president and general manager of Honeywell Aerospace's urban air mobility and unmanned aerial systems divisions, the generator might be used for more hybrid aircraft applications.

Honeywell's 110-acre engine testing complex in Phoenix, Arizona, can run on one power megawatt. Per airship, Flying Whales would require four generators. Over three fundraising rounds, the Quebec-based subsidiary of the French Tech Souverainete and Quebec through the finance arm Investissement Quebec.


According to Flying Whales, the LCA60T airship is scheduled to make its first flight in France in late 2025 and go into operation the following year. According to Honeywell, the corporation intends to produce 150 airplanes over ten years.
