Suriname's President Santokhi Presents Highest Civilian Award To President Droupadi Murmu

Suriname confers highest civilian award to President Droupadi Murmu


President Droupadi Murmu:-

Suriname bestows its highest civilian honor, The Grand Order of the Chain of Yellow Star, upon President Droupadi Murmu, making her the first Indian to receive this prestigious award. The ceremony took place in Suriname, where President Murmu was presented with the honor of Suriname's President Chandrikapersad Santokhi.

Expressing her gratitude, President Murmu emphasized the significance of this recognition, not only for herself but also for the 1.4 billion people she represents in India.

In a message on Twitter, she expressed her deep appreciation for being awarded Suriname's most prestigious accolade, known as the "Grand Order of the Chain of the Yellow Star." 

This acknowledgment carries immense importance, not just for herself but also for the individuals residing in India whom she represents.

President Murmu dedicated the award to the successive generations of the Indian-Surinamese community, recognizing their vital role in fostering strong bonds between the two nations. 

During her state visit, President Murmu was warmly welcomed by President Santokhi at the Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport in Paramaribo. The two leaders engaged in productive discussions at the Presidential Palace, where President Murmu expressed her appreciation for the warm reception and the fact that Hindi is widely spoken in Suriname, evoking a sense of familiarity with India.

Furthermore, India and Suriname signed four significant Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in the areas of health, agriculture, and capacity building, further strengthening the bilateral ties between the two nations. 

These agreements were finalized after delegation-level talks were held led by President Murmu.

The President expressed her delight at visiting Suriname on her first State Visit as the President of India, particularly during the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the arrival of Indians in Suriname. This visit marks an important milestone in the historical and cultural connections shared by the two countries.
