Supreme Court Acquits Lalit Modi:-
The Indian Supreme Court has accepted the unconditional apology tendered by former IPL Chairman Lalit Modi, closing contempt proceedings against him for making contemptuous remarks against the Indian judiciary.
The court's bench directed Modi to desist from any further activities that may tarnish the image of the judiciary, warning that any such attempts in the future would be taken seriously.

The court emphasised that its only concern is that everyone should respect the institution as a whole. Justice MR Shah acknowledged Modi's unconditional and sincere apology, stating that the court places great importance on forgiveness.
The court issued a directive to Modi last week, requiring him to submit an unambiguous expression of regret through various social media avenues and widespread newspapers regarding his disparaging statements about the judiciary. The court also criticised his comments. The court acknowledged that Modi is subject to the law and the institution, ordering him to submit a written statement expressing remorse. In order to safeguard the reputation of the Indian judiciary, the highest court demanded that the affidavit declare a commitment to refrain from any future posts that would even slightly damage its image.
CU Singh, a distinguished lawyer, submitted a contempt charge against Modi for publishing a tweet on March 30, 2023, that defamed the judiciary and made offensive comments about judges. Previously, during a hearing on an application concerning comments made by Modi regarding senior lawyer and ex-Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi, the highest court made a verbal comment that legal professionals should refrain from engaging in familial disputes.
Rohatgi, who is a distinguished lawyer and previously served as the Attorney General, is among the legal representatives defending Bina Modi, the mother of Modi, in the contentious real estate conflict. While representing Bina Modi, Kapil Sibal, a renowned lawyer, had presented an assertion stating that an agreement had been made to refrain from any announcements during the process of mediation.

On January 19, the highest court granted consideration to a petition claiming that Modi had made defamatory comments about Rohatgi and the legal system in a social media post. Former IPL chief and the wife of late industrialist KK Modi, Bina Modi, were involved in a family property dispute and in August 2022, the Supreme Court assigned the task of resolving the matter to Mediator Justice RV Raveendran, who is a former top court judge.
