Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir:-
On Thursday, there was a clash between insurgents and security personnel in the Baramulla region of Jammu and Kashmir. According to police sources, security forces engaged in an encounter with terrorists resulting in the killing of two militants.
The operation was launched after receiving credible intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the Wanigam Payeen Kreeri area. The security forces swiftly carried out a cordon and search operation, leading to an early morning gun battle with the militants. The incident occurred on Thursday, and the security forces have successfully neutralized the threat.
As per the authorities, the search mission transformed into a clash when the militants opened fire on the search team, and as a result, the armed forces responded with counter-attacks. The police reported the discovery of damning evidence, weapons, and ammunition, such as an AK 47 rifle and a pistol, from the deceased terrorists in the encounter.
Shakir Majid Najar and Hanan Ahmad Seh, hailing from the Shopian district, have been identified as terrorists affiliated with the banned terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba.
According to Vijay Kumar, who holds the position of Additional Director General of Police in Kashmir, two militants were eliminated by security personnel in a confrontation that took place in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.
As per the statement issued by the Defence Public Relations Officer (PRO) in Srinagar, a security operation was initiated after receiving information from the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kupwara.
The SSP had informed that there was a possibility of a terrorist group infiltrating from across the Line of Control (LOC) towards the Machhal sector. It led to the troops being put on high alert since May 1. The operation was launched based on this intelligence input to prevent any untoward incident in the region.
A challenging and complex area was secured with a well-planned counter-infiltration system. The Indian Army and Special Operations Group (SOG), Kupwara, were positioned along possible infiltration routes. Despite continuous rainfall, low visibility, and a sharp drop in temperature for two consecutive nights, the alert troops remained vigilant in their ambushes.
On Wednesday morning at approximately 8:30 am, the infiltrating terrorists were spotted by the troops, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire, resulting in the elimination of two terrorists.
