The coastguard of Japan has been informed by Pyongyang that a
rocket will be launched in the near future, specifically between May 31 and
June 11. The rocket is expected to descend into the waters close to the Yellow
Sea.
The announcement came on Monday when North Korea notified
Japan about its plan to launch what it claims to be a satellite.
However, Japanese officials believe that the launch will
involve a ballistic missile, as stated in a tweet from the prime minister's
office referring to a "ballistic missile that it (Pyongyang) describes as
a satellite."
Pyongyang informed Japan that the rocket will fall in the
waters near the Yellow Sea, East China Sea, and east of Luzon Island in the
Philippines. The prime minister's office tweeted that Prime Minister Kishida
issued instructions regarding North Korea's notification about the launch of a
ballistic missile disguised as a satellite.
In response, Kishida has instructed officials to gather
intelligence, maintain a high level of vigilance, and closely coordinate with
allies such as the United States and South Korea. This indicates the importance
of cooperation and information sharing among these nations to address the
situation.
Pyongyang has been increasingly conducting missile launches
in recent months, some of which have activated emergency warning systems in
certain parts of Japan. Concurrently, Seoul and Tokyo have been working on
repairing their strained relations and enhancing cooperation concerning North
Korea's military threats.
