The Lokayukta department on Wednesday carried out raids at the premises of a retired employee of the health department in Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal unearthing cash and properties worth Rs 10 crore.

The retired individual, identified as Ashfaq Ali, had formerly held the position of storekeeper and had received a monthly salary of approximately Rs 45,000 during his service tenure.

During the meticulously executed raid, the officials uncovered gold and silver articles worth Rs 46 lakh and a substantial cash amount of Rs 20 lakh within Ali's residence. The house in Bhopal was adorned with lavish elements such as a modular kitchen, a high-value chandelier, exquisite sofas and showcases, and top-tier appliances, including a refrigerator and television.

Raids by the Lokayukta in Bhopal uncover assets worth Rs 10 crore amassed by a retired health department employee.

Ashfaq Ali had previously served as a storekeeper at the district hospital in Rajgarh before retiring.

The operations conducted by the Lokayukta department spanned multiple locations. They resulted in the exposure of glaringly disproportionate assets attributed to Ali. A senior police official shared that the cumulative value of these assets is estimated to reach around Rs 10 crore.

Among the revelations were documents pertaining to 16 immovable properties, valued at approximately Rs 1.25 crore, registered under the names of Ali, his wife, son, and daughter. Notably, the search operations also revealed information concerning four additional buildings. These included an under-construction shopping complex occupying a vast 14,000 sq ft area, a sprawling acre of land, and a grand, yet-to-be-identified structure. Intriguingly, Ali also administers a school in a three-story building in Lateri, a property he acquired through a lottery win.

The initiation of the raids followed a formal complaint against Ashfaq Ali, alleging his involvement in amassing wealth that far exceeded his documented income. Consequently, Ali has been charged under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

This revelation has cast a spotlight on a retired government employee's alleged accumulation of substantial assets, raising pertinent questions about financial transparency and integrity.
