He arrived in Delhi on May 24, seeking guidance and approval from the All India Congress Committee (AICC) regarding the appointment of new ministers.

When asked about the cabinet expansion, Deputy Chief Minister and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) chief DK Shivakumar mentioned that the details would be shared by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and the AICC. As the party president, Shivakumar expressed his intention to travel to Delhi as well.

On May 18, Siddaramaiah was unanimously elected as the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader in Karnataka. This decision came after several days of careful consideration by the Congress party following their decisive victory in the state elections.

Subsequently, on May 20, Siddaramaiah was sworn in as the Chief Minister, while DK Shivakumar took the oath as his deputy.

In the elections held on May 10, the Congress party emerged victorious, securing 135 seats out of the 224-member Karnataka Assembly. This significant win resulted in the ousting of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which managed to secure only 66 seats in the state.

The Congress' triumph marked a major political shift in Karnataka, which had been the BJP's sole stronghold in the southern region of India.
