Out of the Shadows:-

The BBC has made a noble move in providing a stage for Tasnim, a charismatic woman with a dark past, to voice out her story and perception of life. Unlike many others born out of rape but choose to remain silent throughout their lives fighting with their past’s dilemma, Tasnim gathered enough courage to speak to the BBC about her story. 

Her wonderful version of the story has been captured in the documentary titled; ‘Out of the Shadows: Born From Rape.’

Tasnim’s Story

Tasnim’s mother, Lucy, was merely 15 years old when she was impregnated with Tasnim. Her father, Azhar Ali Mehmood, was 10 years elder than her mother. Tasnim salutes the courage of her late mother, who decided to give her birth. 

Later on, Tasnim’s Azhar killed Lucy by burning down the whole house, but before doing so, goodwill prevailed over him, and he ejected baby Tasnim out of the house.

Tasnim’s Realization of Truth

When Tasnim studied in primary school, she believed that her mother had left her and that her father lived far away from her. Soon, she realized that her father was serving his sentence in jail for rape and murder. She began questioning her existence since she had a deep connection with a rapist and murderer. Tasnim became insecure about the decisions she made in life and what the future had for her.

Tasnim Emerges Out Brave and Bold: Her Message

Tasnim grew up to become a precious woman full of compassion and kindness. She believes that it does not matter who one is connected to. All that matters is what one chooses to do with one’s life. With this, she urges all individuals born out of rape to stand up for themselves and express their stories bravely before the world. Her message is loud and clear — The past must not dictate the present.
