Olympus Mons:-
Our nearest planetary neighbor, Mars is well recognised and the subject of several studies. Four rover missions have been launched from there, and innumerable science fiction narratives have been inspired by it. Besides, it has just been discovered that Mars is also home to the largest volcano in our solar system - Olympus Mons.   Mars Massive Mars Massive

How is Olympus Mons Formed?

A shield volcano on Mars' western side is called Olympus Mons. With a height of 72,000 feet and a width of 374 miles, it is the largest volcano in the solar system. Highly fluid lava flows that spread more widely than the viscous lava we see on Earth is what gave rise to Olympus Mons. The height of Olympus Mons is over 22 km above the plains in the area and 27 km above the typical height of Mars' surface.

What Makes Olympus Mon So Massive?

The size of the volcanoes on Mars and Earth is the key distinction. Mars has volcanoes that are 10 to 100 times bigger than any volcano on Earth. Because of the faster eruption rates and lower surface gravity, the lava flows on the surface are seen to be much longer. In addition, the fact that the crust on Mars doesn't change as much as it does on Earth is another factor contributing to the size of the volcanoes there. The hot places on Earth are still, but the crustal plates are shifting above them. However, on Mars, the crust is still and the lava builds up into a single and gigantic volcano. According to geologic estimates, Olympus Mons is only a few million years old, making it a relatively young volcano. Despite this, there is a significant probability that it is still active and that an eruption is imminent. This implies that as new lava rises to the surface and cools down, Olympus Mons could become much larger.   Olympus Mons
