North Korea Fires Missile Towards Japan:-
As alleged by Japan, North Korea fired an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile rocket (ICBM-class rocket) toward Hokkaido. The missile Fell on the waters off the shore of an island located towards the north of Japan, prompting authorities to release warnings for the general public using its J-alert security system.
Panic in Japan
Not only have the residents of Japan been taken by panic, authorities too have begun taking prompt action. Fumio Kishida, the Japanese PM, called for an urgent National Security Council meeting to plan steps that needed to be taken to ensure safety. An alert was released for the residents in the nearby area to ensure safe shelter.
Reportedly, a man who was present at the railway station when the alert was released informed, “For a second in the train there was panic, but a station worker said to calm down, and people did.” The Japanese coast guards assessed the projectile of the missile but failed to confirm whether it flew over the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of Japan.
South Korea’s Stand
South Korea has termed the firing of the missile by North Korea toward Japan as a “grave provocation.” It has also raised concerns over North Korea piling up large stocks of solid-range missiles. Such missiles are particularly dangerous since they can be fired promptly at any time without any prior preparation.
According to ballistic experts, ICBM missiles are long-range missiles that can reach up to the United States from South Korea.
United States Take on The Event
The White House has called the action of North Korea “a brazen violation of multiple U.N. Security Council resolutions.” It has alsoensured “The United States will take all necessary measures to ensure the security of the American homeland and the Republic of Korea and Japanese allies.”
