North Koarea's Missile Test Became the Reason fo3 a Beginning of a New Blame Game  at The UNSC Due to North Korea's Missile Test

It seems like nobody wants to take responsibility for North Korea’s missile launches, especially the Big Five. Three formidable member nations of the Permanent Five, the United States of America, The Russian Federation, and the People's Republic of China, engaged in an accusation game at the United Nations Security Council(UNSC) meeting on Monday over encouraging North Korea's Hwasong-17 intercontinental ballistic missile launch.

US Attack on Pyongyang's Missile Launches

America's ambassador to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, criticized Russia and China for their "obstructionism in the Council encourages North Korea to launch ballistic missiles with impunity." While taking a jibe at China and Russia’s refusal "to engage in good-faith diplomacy", she alleged, "How many times must the DPRK violate its UN Security Council resolution obligations before China and Russia stop shielding the DPRK regime?" The Democratic People's Republic of Korea(DPRK) is North Korea's official name.

The accusations come in view of Russia, along with China using their veto power against an attempt to impose sanctions on North Korea last year in May.

China And Russia’s Defence

While the US pointed out that China and Russia are to be held liable for North Korea’s irresponsible behaviour, since they vetoed the sanctions against Pyongyang, the North Korean allies have given joint military drills by the US and South Korea as a cause for provoking North Korea. Geng Shuang, China’s deputy UN ambassador, doubted the intentions behind these defensive drills, and held them responsible for heightening tensions. Russia’s deputy UN ambassador Anna Evstigneeva has referred to the US and South Korean military activity as “unprecedented”.

The Rest of The UNSC Reacts

Nine members of the UNSC, namely France, the United States, South Korea, and Japan, issued a Joint statement on Monday condemning North Korea’s "unprecedented number" of missile launches, stating the "growing crisis threatens not only the region but global peace and stability." A senior U.N. official reported that the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres “remains deeply concerned over the divisions that have prevented the international community from acting on this matter.”
