The Fastest Way to Reach Mars:-
What Is DRACO? The DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency), a US Defense department branch, has partnered with NASA to design the DRACO (Demonstration Rocket for Agile Cislunar Operations), a rocket which runs on nuclear power. Both NASA and DARPA aim that DRACO would be the first rocket of its kind to carry humans to Mars within the shortest time possible. Fastest Way to Reach Mars Fastest Way to Reach Mars Testing The DRACO NASA and DARPA have scheduled the testing of DRACO in July 2027. Bill Nelson from NASA said, “NASA will work with our long-term partner, DARPA, to develop and demonstrate advanced nuclear thermal propulsion technology as soon as 2027.” Salient Features of The DRACO The DRACO will run on an engine powered by nuclear reactors running on the chemical reaction of fission. The fission reaction will provide thrust to the rocket by heating it up. According to NASA, this technology will make the rocket three times more efficient than conventional rockets. Utilities of The DRACO NASA and DARPA have asserted that the DRACO,by reducing the time of transit between Mars and Earth, will lead to less risky scientific research. The risk upon lives of astronauts and cost of running scientific exploration will also be reduced to a great extent. Currently, the distance between Mars and Earth is 225 kilometers and it takes 7 months to reach the Red Planet. The time that the DRACO will take is yet to be estimated in perfect figures.
