To reach its goal of terminating 10,000 roles, Meta has started conducting a third round of layoffs as per a well-informed insider source, who has direct knowledge of the ongoing situation. On Wednesday, Meta Platforms Inc. announced that it plans to reduce approximately 490 positions at the company’s international headquarters in Dublin.

Meta, which has already conducted two rounds of mass layoffs wherein over 11,000 employees were dismissed from their roles in the last round, is known to be the first Big Tech company that conducted a second round of significant workforce reductions. Meta’s layoffs are expected to have significant impacts on teams involved in partnerships, ad sales and marketing. Recently, in the April layoffs, more than 4,000 employees were dismissed from their jobs.

Meta decided to sack 11,000 employees in September 2022 and 10,000 employees in March this year.

In March, Mark Zuckerberg, Meta's Chief Executive Officer, announced that the majority of the dismissals in the company's second round would occur in three distinct phases spread over several months. While the process is expected to conclude by May, he also mentioned the possibility of smaller rounds of layoffs continuing beyond that timeframe.

Non-engineering roles in the company have been impacted most by Meta's layoffs, emphasizing the importance of those involved in coding and programming roles at the company. In March, Zuckerberg made a commitment to "substantially" restructure the company's business teams and restore a "more optimal ratio of engineers to other roles." Executives, who spoke at a company town hall after the layoffs, revealed that even within the technology teams, non-engineering roles such as content design and user experience research were affected more by the cuts.

After their dismissal, many employees of the company took to professional networking platforms like LinkedIn on Wednesday to share that they had been impacted by the recent wave of layoffs.
