Florida Governor
Ron DeSantis faced a challenging beginning to his anticipated Presidential
campaign announcement on Wednesday night, leading to disappointment and
frustration for many.
As he set his
sights on the 2024 presidential race, DeSantis participated in a Twitter Spaces
event, joined by Twitter CEO Elon Musk and Craft Ventures co-founder David
Sacks, to launch his campaign.
However, the
sheer number of attendees overwhelmed the platform, causing multiple crashes
within the first few minutes of the event.
DeSantis' highly
anticipated announcement got off to a rocky start, failing to meet people's
expectations and sparking a wave of criticism on Twitter.
Users expressed
their dissatisfaction with the launch, labeling it as a "disastrous"
event, which quickly became a trending topic with the hashtag #Desaster.
The event was
marred by technical difficulties that persisted throughout. Glitches, echoes,
and overwhelming feedback plagued the proceedings, resulting in only brief
snippets of comments from Musk and Sacks in the initial 24 minutes and no
remarks from DeSantis.
Sacks attributed
these issues to the overwhelming number of participants, which initially
exceeded 200,000 and later grew to nearly half a million by 6:13 p.m. Eastern
time.
As Sacks observed
the overcrowded servers, he interpreted it as a positive indication. However,
his audio abruptly ceased once more, leaving a void of silence.
At approximately
6:15 p.m., the virtual video conference attempted to fill the void with
instrumental music but eventually succumbed to another crash. Shortly
afterward, the Twitter Spaces event went offline completely, although listeners
were still able to access a distorted recording of the proceedings.
Following these
technical difficulties, numerous fans turned to Twitter to share amusing memes,
highlighting the unfortunate technological breakdown that marred DeSantis's
Presidential launch.

A Twitter user
humorously commented on a picture of Ron DeSantis, suggesting that his
presidential campaign launch was going exactly as they would expect from
someone who eats pudding with their fingers.
The President
also shared a mock video about DeSantis, emphasizing that his agenda is
unmistakably clear. After resolving technical difficulties, the event continued
without a hitch.
DeSantis and
other speakers praised Elon Musk for transforming Twitter into a platform that
safeguards "free speech."
The event went
beyond its planned duration by over 20 minutes because DeSantis tried to answer
questions from chosen individuals like Congressman Thomas Massie and talk show
host Steve Deace.
Toward the end of
the event, Musk used Twitter Spaces to invite other Presidential candidates.
Shortly after the event, he reiterated his invitation in a tweet, expressing
that all Presidential candidates are welcome on the platform.
