Following his disqualification from the Lok Sabha, India's lower house of parliament, on March 19, 2023, after being convicted in a 2019 criminal defamation case, the Lok Sabha secretariat had asked Gandhi to vacate his official residence by April 22. On Sunday, April 23, he shifted to his mother Sonia Gandhi’s residence at 10 Janpath.

Tewari, who was part of the G-23 group of dissenting senior Congress leaders, praised Rahul Gandhi for conducting himself with "exemplary dignity and grace" while vacating his official bungalow, a trait he believes is lacking in today's political environment. The G-23 group had written a letter to then Congress president Sonia Gandhi in August 2020, expressing their concerns about the party's state of affairs and calling for an overhaul of its leadership and decision-making processes.

Despite his eviction, Rahul Gandhi remained committed to raising issues such as price rise and corruption with "double the force." He thanked the people of India for giving him the house for 19 years and stated that he had no problem even if it had been snatched away from him.

Gandhi's eviction from his official residence is seen by some as politically motivated, with opposition leaders accusing the ruling party of targeting him. However, Gandhi remained undeterred, promising to continue fighting for the rights of the common people.

This incident highlights the need for more leaders like Rahul Gandhi who can conduct themselves with dignity and grace, even in difficult circumstances. It is also a reminder that political leaders should always put the interests of the people first and work towards creating a better future for everyone.

Overall, Rahul Gandhi's eviction from his official residence has sparked a debate on the current state of politics in India and the need for leaders who can uphold the values of democracy and serve the people with sincerity and dedication.
