Pictures of Nobel laureate and an active advocate for girls' education, Malala Yousafzai, had to be taken down two days ago in a government high school located in Kuju, within the Mandu block of Ramgarh district, due to recent protests by local residents and panchayat representatives.

Grounds of Opposition by The Public

The school, which has an enrollment of approximately 500 students, put up the photo on display in January this year with the intention to inspire the students to pursue education. But their purpose failed when pictures and videos of the posters went viral on social media, grabbing people's attention.

The villagers, supported by the panchayat representatives, insisted on the removal of the posters. They questioned the school authorities as to why a foreign national should serve as an icon for the students when India has numerous inspirational figures. The school management, which did not want to land in controversy, decided to take down the pictures.

Jai Kumar Ojha, the Mukhiya of Kuju West panchayat, who was in support of the removal of the posters spoke about the controversy on Sunday, stating, "It's globally known that Pakistan backs state-sponsored terrorism against India and our country has paid a big price from the cross-border terrorism. We don't need peace lessons from Pakistani activists."

A school in Jharkhand was embroiled in controversy for putting up the photo of Pakistan's Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai. The villagers were opposing the installation of a Pakistani social activist's photo.

Response of The School

When asked about the matter, Headmaster Ravindra Prasad said, "Our teachers keep coming up with creative ideas in the school to encourage and motivate students to study. This poster, too, was under that initiative to motivate the students from Malala's fight for the education of girls. But we have removed it now to avoid any unwanted controversy."
