Moitra, a member
of parliament, tweeted to Hon'ble Modiji regarding the 100th episode of Mann ki
Baat, scheduled to be telecasted live at the UN HQ. In her tweet, she raised
two questions. Firstly, she questioned why India's female athletes can't be
protected from powerful BJP predators. Secondly, she asked why SEBI can't
conclude the Adani investigation within the timeframe set by the Supreme Court.
The Trinamool
Congress MP has raised a question regarding the current protest by India's
leading wrestlers, who are demanding legal action against Wrestling Federation
of India president and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The wrestlers have
accused Singh of sexual harassment and intimidation and are calling for his
resignation. The MP is seeking to understand the government's stance on the
matter and what steps are being taken to address the issue.
On Saturday,
Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra criticized women leaders of the Bharatiya
Janata Party for their silence on the ongoing protest by wrestlers.
Moitra questioned
the BJP's "nari brigade," which includes women at high ranks inside
the party, and asked why they have not spoken up about the issue.
She also took a
dig at Union minister Smriti Irani, a former TV actor, implying that the BJP's
women leaders are not standing up for the female wrestlers because they are not
"sanskari" enough. Moitra's tweet highlights the lack of support for
female athletes in India and the need for more vocal advocacy from women in
positions of power.
The second
question is regarding SEBI's request for a six-month extension to investigate
alleged stock market manipulation involving Adani group shares and any
regulatory disclosure lapses. In response to this news, Moitra had tweeted
earlier, calling the extension request a joke.
"I find this
situation to be comical. The investigation is being conducted by SEBI since October of last year, in response
to a letter I wrote in July. Although they have identified apparent violations
(which doesn't surprise me), they are requesting an additional six months to
protect their preferred businessman. This extension will provide him with ample
time to conceal any wrongdoing," she remarked.
On Twitter, a
person pointed out that the Chairperson of SEBI called the Adani issue the
"elephant in the room" and, therefore, it should be given more
priority as the Adani Group has been functioning freely for a long time.
Furthermore, the
chief of WFI stated that his resignation would imply an admission of guilt
regarding the allegations made by the wrestlers.
On Friday, Brij
Bhushan Sharan Singh had two FIRs registered against him by the Delhi Police.
According to the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), the majority of Haryana
players support him, while only one wrestling family is still demonstrating
protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
