Magh Mela 2023:-
The holy city of Allahabad, now named as Prayagraj has started off with the fervor of Magh Mela with all pomp and splendor at the Triveni Sangam which is located 7 kilometers away from the main city of Prayagraj. The Triveni Sangam of Prayagraj is also known as “Tirth Raj” meaning, “king of pilgrimage places”. This year, the Magh Mela of Prayagraj has been scheduled from 6th of January to 18th of February 2023. The Magh Mela is also known as the mini Kumbh Mela. What Happens in the Magh Mela? Devotees in huge numbers reach Prayagraj from all corners of the country for a sacred dip into the holy waters of the rivers Saraswati, Ganga and Yamuna. There are few auspicious days falling within this period when devotees take the holy bath as an elaborate ritual with chanting of mantras. Few such days falling within the Magh Mela period are Makar Sankranti, Purnima, Amavasya, Basant Panchami, Maghi Purnima, and Maha Shivratri. Apart from this, other activities pursued in the Magh Mela include Anndaan (donation of food), Arghya daan to the Sun to seek its blessings, Havan by saints and monks from all parts of India relating to any form of the Hindu Dharma. Magh Mela 2023 Magh Mela 2023-Magh Mela 2023-Magh Mela 2023-Magh Mela 2023-Magh Mela 2023 Observing Kalpwas “Kalpwas” means staying near the banks of the confluence of the holy rivers for a fixed period and observing strict religious rules throughout the day. The rules include a fixed diet (1 meal per day and fruits), bathing in the cold river water (3 times a day) and traveling bare foot to other tirth-sthals (places of pilgrimage) in Prayagraj. After one completes 12 days of Kalpwas, he must donate his shayya (bed) and other belongings to receive the benefits of his devotion. Religious Significance It is believed that the 45-day period of Magh Mela in Prayagraj is equivalent to the whole time period of the 4 Yugas: Satyug, Treta, Dwapar, and Kalyug. One who completes a period of Kalpwas during the Magh Mela in Prayagraj is said to have washed away all sins of his previous life. If anyone wants to fulfill any desire in life, he must complete Kalpwas for 12 years in an uninterrupted manner. Snan Dates for the 2023 Magh Mela at Prayagraj
