While Kareena Kapoor has become more reserved in her public statements, there was a time when she fearlessly expressed herself in interviews, much like many others in the industry. In a noteworthy conversation with Filmfare in 2000, Kareena candidly discussed a range of topics.

From her disagreement with director Sanjay Leela Bhansali to her aspiration of carving her own niche distinct from her sister Karisma's filmography, she didn't shy away from sharing her opinions.

She even expressed her aversion to Salman Khan's acting and revealed the reason behind her decision to step away from the film Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai. Kareena's unfiltered and bold statements in that interview left a lasting impression on both the industry and her fans.

In a previous interview, Kareena Kapoor expressed her desire to be perceived as a serious actor, stating that she would prefer not to collaborate with filmmakers like David Dhawan. Her intention was to ensure that her choices in the industry align with her aspiration for substantial and impactful roles.

Kareena Kapoor was last seen in Laal Singh Chaddha.

By voicing her preference, Kareena emphasized her commitment to carving a path that allows her to be recognized for her acting prowess and the depth she brings to her performances.

Kareena Kapoor made her debut in the year 2000 with the film Refugee, where she starred alongside Abhishek Bachchan. However, prior to that, she had initially been cast opposite Hrithik Roshan in the film Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai.

Unfortunately, after a brief period of shooting, her mother Babita made the decision to withdraw her from the project, resulting in her being replaced by Ameesha Patel. This incident marked a significant turning point in Kareena's early career, leading her to embark on a different path that ultimately led to her successful journey in the film industry.

During an interview with Filmfare, Kareena Kapoor expressed that if she had not left the project, she would have undoubtedly become a star. However, her primary aim was to establish herself as an accomplished actress rather than solely focusing on stardom. Kareena went on to elaborate, stating that the film was specifically tailored for Hrithik Roshan. His father, Rakesh Roshan, dedicated extensive time, around five hours, to perfecting each frame and close-up of Hrithik, while minimal attention was given to Ameesha Patel.

Kareena pointed out that there were scenes in the film where Ameesha's face displayed imperfections like pimples and under-eye bags, which didn't contribute to her looking beautiful.

On the other hand, every shot featuring Hrithik was crafted to perfection. Kareena speculated that had she been a part of the film, she would have received a better deal, but she also believed that the attention would have been divided between her and Hrithik.

Reflecting on her decision, Kareena Kapoor expressed her contentment about not being a part of the film. She emphasized her satisfaction by stating, "So, I'm glad I didn't do the film." Despite her departure from the project, Kareena highlighted that there were no issues or animosity between her and Hrithik Roshan. Their friendship remained intact, and she genuinely celebrated his success. In fact, Kareena revealed that they even had the opportunity to collaborate in two other films, further strengthening their professional bond.

During the candid interview, Kareena Kapoor expressed her distinct preferences when it came to choosing directors for her career. Despite acknowledging the success that her sister Karisma achieved through collaborations with director David Dhawan, Kareena asserted that she didn't envision herself working with him at the beginning of her own journey. She highlighted the stark contrast between her and Karisma, stating that they were "poles apart" in terms of their approach and choices.

While recognizing the significance of her sister's career trajectory with David Dhawan, Kareena firmly stated her intention to forge her own path. She declared, "My sister might have made her career with him, but I don't want to. I'll dare to be different." Kareena emphasized her commitment to embracing uniqueness and venturing into uncharted territory.

Furthermore, Kareena expressed her unwavering commitment to quality work. She stated that if pursuing excellence meant having a lighter workload, she would gladly choose to do fewer projects. Her primary criterion for selecting projects was working with esteemed filmmakers who had a proven track record of delivering exceptional content. Kareena's aspiration was to collaborate with talented directors who could bring out the best in her as an actor.

Providing further insights into the happenings on the sets of the film Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai director Rakesh Roshan shared his perspective in a 2020 interview with The Quint. He revealed, "Kareena's mother, Babita, whom I hold in high regard, expressed her concern by saying, 'Don't start with a song, she's not ready. Begin with dialogues instead.'" Roshan continued, "Babita was firm in her stance, and I realized that if we proceed this way, it might lead to further instructions in the future. Considering our good friendship, I felt it would be better for us to part ways."

The director acknowledged the importance of a collaborative and harmonious working environment. Roshan's decision to separate paths with Kareena Kapoor and her mother was motivated by his belief that maintaining creative freedom and avoiding potential conflicts were crucial for the smooth progression of the project. By choosing to amicably part ways, Roshan aimed to preserve their friendship while ensuring the integrity of his filmmaking process.
