Syria fired rockets into Israel’s territory just a day after tensions escalated in Jerusalem, Israel’s capital and holiest city in the country. It has resulted in rising military tensions between the two countries.

Israel has now engaged itself in retaliating Syria’s action by striking multiple military targets in the region.

Syria’s Rocket Firing

The 6 rockets fired from Syria were conducted in two separate barrages from Saturday night to Sunday morning. Out of these 6 rockets, 3 landed inside the Israeli territory near Meitsar town. Civilians were relocated to safe areas.

No casualties were reported during the attack. However, a very high potential life threat was posed before the Israeli citizens.

One of the rockets landed in Jordan. Further, at 3 a.m., rockets crashed on towns located in the Golan Heights of Israel. Syria claimed that the rockets were aimed toward open areas. Nevertheless, this cannot be a justification for firing rockets inside the territory of Israel.

Ongoing Action by the Israeli Military

The Israeli military has begun its comeback operation, in which it retaliated by conducting a drone strike on the launch pads of the 6 rockets. Meanwhile, Syrian media has also reported huge explosions near Damascus, the capital city of Syria. The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) have also added a statement regarding the issue, which says it “views the Syrian state as responsible for everything happening in its territory and will not enable attempts to violate Israel’s sovereignty.”
