Sexual Harassment in Kalakshetra Foundation:-
After the arrest of Hari Padman, the prime accused in the Case of sexual harassment by staff members in the Kalakshetra Foundation, a cultural arts training centre of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, an independent Inquiry Committee has been set up to look into the veracity of the charges levelled by a mass of students during protests.
Composition of the Inquiry Committee
The Inquiry Committee has been constituted by the Board of the Kalakshetra Foundation and it will constitute 3 members. All the three members are independent of each other and of the Kalakshetra Foundation as well. The names of the three independent members of the Inquiry Committee are as follows: Retired Justice K. Kannan, Shiibha Varthaman and Former DGP of Tamil Nadu Letika Saran.
What Will The Inquiry Committee Look Into?
The Inquiry Committee will look into all the charges of sexual harassment put across by students and conduct an internal enquiry with the participation of students as well. It will also look into the dismissal of 4 employees of the Kalakshetra Foundation who were engaged as teachers/ professors in different fields.
Other Steps Taken by The Kalakshetra Foundation’s Board
The Board of the Kalakshetra Foundation has decided upon:
Reconstituting the internal complaints committee of the Foundation.
Appointment of a new student counselor.
Appointment of an independent advisory committee for the Foundation.
The Board has also reassured that it would Remain absolutely committed towards the safety of the female students of the Kalakshetra Foundation from now onwards.
