Kiren Rijiju was sworn in as the Law Minister of India on 7th July, 2021. He assumed office till May 2023 when he was replaced by Arjun Ram Meghwal under controversial circumstances. Not delving into the factual background of Kiren Rijiju's dismissal, this article seeks to highlight the meritorious achievements of Law Minister Kiren Rijiju's short-lived tenure.

Altered the CPC and Criminal Laws to Make Them More Effective

During the tenure of Law Minister Kiren Rijiju, the Civil Procedure Code as well as the criminal laws such as the IPC and CrPC have undergone huge changes to make these comprehensive statutes much more simpler and streamlined making the barrier between law and practice much thinner.

More Judges and More Courts

Law Minister Kiren Rijiju pushed for filling up of a large chunk of vacant posts of civil and criminal judges in lower courts. The large number of vacancies in such posts paralyze the efficiency of the Indian judiciary system. Setting up a large number of newer courts meant quicker resolution of matters and catering to the needs of more people at once.
