Dutee Chand, hailed as India's swiftest female runner and the record holder in the 100m sprint, has faced a significant setback. She has been handed a stringent four-year suspension following an unsuccessful out-of-competition drug test on Thursday. The test revealed the presence of specific androgen receptor modulators (SARMs), leading to her exclusion from competitive sports.

Dutee Chand's recent doping test yielded a failure, resulting in a four-year suspension. This ban will be in effect from January 3, 2023, until January 3, 2027. Consequently, any medals and records she achieved in the initial part of 2023 will be invalidated.

On Thursday, Dutee Chand was banned for four years due to failed doping test.

Dutee Chand underwent two tests in December 2022, one on the 5th and another on the 26th. The initial sample revealed the presence of anabolic agents andarine, ostarine, and ligandrol. The second sample confirmed andarine and ostarine. She had the option to request a 'B' sample test within a week after being notified of the adverse finding. However, she didn't pursue this, leading to her suspension. Now, she has 21 days to appeal to the Anti-Doping Appeal Panel in the hope of a reduced penalty.

The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) issued the decision, finding Chand in breach of "articles 2.1 and 2.2 of the NADA," resulting in a four-year period of ineligibility as per "article 10.2.1.1 of the NADA ADR 2021."

According to PTI, Athlete Dutee Chand expressed her shock, stating that it had been surprising news for her. She had never anticipated a four-year ban. She pointed out that she had undergone 300-400 doping tests over her 20-year sports career without encountering any failures. She appealed to the sports authorities, the Odisha government, and the central government to offer assistance, enabling her to once again represent India. This came after the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) imposed a four-year ban on her due to her failure in two out-of-competition doping tests for a prohibited substance.
