What’s The Matter?

The trial for the lawsuit filed by Dominion Voting Systems will begin on Tuesday. The defamation suit is filed against Fox Corp and Fox News over claims of Dominion’s ballots-counting machines being rigged, which favored Joe Biden over Donald Trump in the 2020 US presidential election. The issue in question is whether Fox had aired the false information knowing that it was false and presented it without any consciousness, which shall be determined by the standard of "actual malice" which has to be proved by Dominion in the defamation case.

The suit, valued at  $1.6 billion which has been termed as unrealistic by Fox News,  has been contended by Dominion Voting Systems against Fox Corp and Fox News for the alleged defamation by the latter for causing damage to its reputation as well as business by consistently televising that Dominion’s ballots were used to influence the elections in favor of the current President of U.S. Joe Biden, a Democrat, against the Republican candidate Donald Trump, who was the president of United States before Biden. In its response, Fox stated that Dominion mischaracterized the network's coverage decisions. It said that the claims made by President Trump's lawyers about election rigging were newsworthy and not defamatory in nature.

This is not the only case against Fox for defamation. Another U.S. voting technology company, Smartmatic, filed a lawsuit in a New York state court seeking damages worth $2.7 billion against Fox for defamation.
