Chhattisgarh: ED Detains IAS Officer In Alleged Coal Levy Case

In a major development, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has made a significant breakthrough in its investigation into an alleged coal levy scam in Chhattisgarh, resulting in the arrest of a prominent woman Indian Administrative Service (IAAS) officer.
The officer's detention marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing probe, bringing to light potential irregularities and corruption in the state’s coal sector.
Following raids at an IAS officer's residence by the central agency in connection with a money laundering case, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) detained IAS officer Ranu Sahu in Chhattisgarh on Saturday, according to sources.
“Sahu was arrested in connection with an alleged coal levy case, and produced in a court hearing Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) cases here to seek her custody,” ED’s attorney Saurabh Pandey stated. She is the second IAS official to be detained in this issue in the state.
Currently serving as the director of the state agriculture department is Sahu, an IAS officer from the Chhattisgarh cadre who graduated in 2010. She has previously held the position of collector for the coal-rich districts of Raigarh and Korba.
On Friday, the ED conducted raids at her Raipur home. As part of its investigation into the suspected coal levy case, the ED raided her residences before and attached her assets.
As Sameer Vishnoi, an IAS official from the 2009 batch, was also detained last year, this is the second IAS officer in the state to be detained in connection with the case.
Apart from politicians and people associated with them, the agency has been investigating an alleged coal tax and spirits fraud in the state and has made some high-profile officials the target of its arrests.
The arrest of the woman IAS officer, in connection with the alleged coal levy case has undoubtedly sent shockwaves through Chhattisgarh’s administrative circles.
