On August 1, the
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) executed the TransLunar Injection
(TLI) maneuver, propelling Chandrayaan-3 on its trajectory towards the moon.
The successful
TLI was carried out from the ISRO Telemetry, Tracking, and Command Network
(ISTRAC) situated in Bengaluru. The scheduled time for the TransLunar Injection
(TLI) was between midnight and 1 am IST on August 1.
The space agency
tweeted "Chandrayaan-3 completes its orbits around the Earth and heads
towards the Moon.
A successful perigee-firing performed at ISTRAC, ISRO has injected the spacecraft into the translunar orbit.
Next stop: the
Moon 🌖
As it arrives at
the moon, the Lunar-Orbit Insertion (LOI) is planned for Aug 5, 2023."
Chandrayaan-3 is anticipated to enter the lunar orbit on August 5, and subsequently, the spacecraft's liquid engine will be activated once more to place it into the designated lunar orbit.
Following this
step, there will be four orbital maneuvers to position the spacecraft in its
ultimate orbit approximately 100 km away from the Moon's surface.
Chandrayaan-3
comprises a Lander module (LM), Propulsion module (PM), and a Rover. On August
17, the separation between the PM and LM will occur. A sequence of deboost
maneuvers is also planned prior to the power descent phase for the soft landing
on the Moon. The anticipated landing time for the lander on the lunar surface
is 5.47 p.m. on August 23.
