The statement further said that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) was also on the lookout for Ali due to his involvement in an illicit gold bars smuggling incident.

"The Global Operations Centre of CBI in close coordination with INTERPOL channels has coordinated the return of a Red Notice Subject in coordination with NIA and INTERPOL NCB Riyadh," the statement added.

It further informed," He returned to India from Saudi Arabia on Thursday. The said Red Notice Subject was wanted by NIA."

On September 13, 2021, an INTERPOL Red Notice was issued against Mohbat Ali, following a request from the NIA. The NIA had registered a case against him, accusing Ali of being involved in a conspiracy to smuggle gold bars illegally from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, into India.

Recently, on August 9, the CBI, in collaboration with INTERPOL channels based in the USA, successfully arranged the return of T Ravindranath Gupta, a Red Notice subject. Gupta was being sought in relation to a bank fraud case.
