The renovation of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's bungalow has caught the attention of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) due to alleged irregularities and is now under investigation.

As per the reporting of news agency ANI, the CAG will carry out a "special audit" to investigate the alleged administrative and financial irregularities in the renovation of

Arvind Kejriwal's official residence ‘Sheesh Mahal’ at 6, Flag Staff Road Civil Lines, Delhi.

The decision for a special audit by the CAG was taken after a recommendation from the Ministry of Home Affairs. This recommendation was made following a letter received on May 24, 2023, from the Lieutenant Governor's Secretariat, which indicated significant financial irregularities observed in the renovation of Arvind Kejriwal's official residence.

As alleged in the letter, the “extravagant expenditure” in the renovation occurred during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic under the influence of "Hon'ble CM Madam," seemingly referring to Kejriwal's wife.

This step is seen as a response to the controversy surrounding the expenditure of Rs 44.78 crore in the renovation of CM Kejriwal's official residence. Following the controversy, the Lieutenant Governor's office took action by directing the Chief

Secretary to obtain and assess all records within a specified period of 15 days.

Subsequently, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena submitted a recommendation to the Ministry of Home Affairs, which was approved. The Ministry of Home Affairs, in response, urged the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) to conduct a thorough audit into the matter.

The renovation of the bungalow has caused huge controversy, with both parties taking a dig at each other. On one hand, the BJP accused the AAP convener of having a luxurious lifestyle while projecting himself as an ordinary citizen.

In response, the AAP tried to defend the renovation by highlighting the age and structural issues of the building. According to the AAP, the reconstruction of the residence was recommended by the Public Works Department (PWD) due to repeated incidents of roof collapse. The party also pointed out that the CM's official residence was originally constructed in 1942 and was in dire need of reconstruction.
