Blinken Engages Jordan's King to Halt Israel-Hamas Conflict Spread in the Middle East

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken continues his diplomatic mission in the Middle East, meeting with leaders in Jordan to discuss strategies to prevent the Israel-Hamas conflict from spreading. Urgency surrounds calls for a ceasefire, increased humanitarian aid to Gaza, and planning for post-conflict recovery.

Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken engaged in diplomatic efforts during his fourth visit to the region in three months. His mission focused on curbing the Israel-Hamas conflict's regional expansion and addressing the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.

In meetings with Jordan's King Abdullah II and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Blinken emphasized the necessity for Israel to modify military operations, minimize civilian casualties, and boost humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza. He urged detailed planning for the territory's post-conflict future, devastated by Israeli airstrikes and ground offensives.

Blinken's tour included talks in Turkey and Greece, where he sought support for aid deliveries and regional stability. Despite growing international criticism of Israel's military actions, an immediate ceasefire remains elusive, with the US proposing temporary "humanitarian pauses" for aid delivery.

In Jordan, Blinken visited the World Food Programme's warehouse, highlighting the need for increased aid to Gaza. While Israel opened a second aid entry point, the current truck influx remains insufficient. Gaza's 2.3 million inhabitants face severe hunger, with 85% displaced by conflict, overwhelming hospitals and sanitation systems.

Blinken's diplomatic journey continues to Qatar, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Israel, the West Bank, and Egypt. He stressed the complexity of negotiations, emphasizing the protection of civilians, humanitarian aid, preventing future strikes, and establishing a framework for Palestinian-led governance. The region faces additional challenges, including Hezbollah's rocket attacks in Lebanon and Houthi rebels disrupting Red Sea trade. The international coalition warns the Houthis, signaling potential military action if attacks persist.
