Baba Harbhajan Singh:-
We all have heard about a tale related to the Indian army, a man who receives journey warrants from the army and travels to his hometown on leave even after death. Even the army personnel confirm that Baba Harbhajan Singh is still on duty. Baba Harbhajan Singh is a name that is synonymous with the Indian Army and holds a special place in the hearts of the people of India.  Baba Harbhajan Singh Born in a small village in Punjab in 1946, Baba Harbhajan Singh was a true patriot who served his country with great honor and distinction. Like any other Indian, he also had a passion to serve his nation, he is so devoted to the country that even death won't be able to stop him and he is still on duty even after death. Baba Harbhajan Singh joined the Indian Army in 1956 at a very tender age. He was deployed in  Signals Corps, an essential branch of the Indian Army responsible for providing communication support to the troops. Baba Harbhajan was stationed in the Sikkim sector, near the Indo-China border, where he served for the most of his service tenure. Baba Harbhajan Singh was known for his unwavering dedication and exceptional work ethic during his tenure. His fellow soldiers held him in high regard and were in awe of his courage and determination. Baba Harbhajan Singh had a deep sense of patriotism and was always ready to lay down his life for the nation. Tragically, Baba Harbhajan Singh's life was cut short in 1968, while he was on a mission to escort a mule caravan. Baba Harbhajan Singh slipped and fell into a fast-flowing stream and was swept away by the strong current. His body was never found, and he was presumed dead. However, what followed was nothing short of miraculous. Fellow soldiers claimed that Baba Harbhajan Singh appeared to them in their dreams, guiding them to his body's exact location. When they followed his directions, they found his body exactly where he had indicated. This was the first of many miracles attributed to Baba Harbhajan, who had become an iconic figure in the Indian Army. After his death, Baba Harbhajan Singh's spirit was believed to be protecting the soldiers posted in the Sikkim sector. His ghostly presence was said to have warned the soldiers of impending danger and guided them to safety. It wasn't long before the legend of Baba Harbhajan Singh spread throughout the Indian Army, and his story was retold with great reverence. In 1983, a shrine was built in Baba Harbhajan Singh's honor at his place of duty in Nathu La, a mountain pass between India and China. The shrine, known as the Baba Harbhajan Singh Mandir, became a pilgrimage site for both soldiers and civilians. The shrine's popularity grew, and soon it became a major tourist attraction, drawing thousands of visitors every year. Today, Baba Harbhajan Singh is remembered as a true hero of the Indian Army, and his legend continues to inspire generations of soldiers. The Indian Army honors him every year on September 14, which is celebrated as Baba Harbhajan Singh Jayanti. On this day, a ceremonial flag is hoisted at his shrine, and a parade is held in his honor. He is granted annual leave as is the rule for all other serving soldiers. He is given a warrant of the journey from New Jalpaiguri Railway Station to his hometown in Punjab and the seat reserved for him is kept vacant by the soldier escorting him to his hometown. Such an honor to soldiers granted by the Indian army to its soldier even after death speaks aloud about the rich tradition and values of the Indian Army.  Baba Harbhajan Singh In conclusion, Baba Harbhajan's story is a testament to the bravery and sacrifice of the Indian Army. His unwavering dedication to his country and fellow soldiers is an inspiration to all who hear his tale. Baba Harbhajan Singh may have passed away over five decades ago, but his spirit continues to live on, guiding and protecting the soldiers posted in the Sikkim sector. His legacy will forever be etched in the hearts and minds of Indian citizens. His patriotism is beyond life and death. As people say Baba Harbhajan: A Man Still on His Duty even after death.
