Mizoram witnesses a significant anti-narcotics drive with the seizure of heroin and methamphetamine tablets worth crores at the India-Myanmar border and within the state. Multiple arrests highlight the success of joint operations, reinforcing Mizoram's commitment to curbing the drug trade.

In
a significant crackdown, Mizoram's Champhai district witnessed the seizure of
heroin valued at Rs 30 crore at the India-Myanmar
border. The operation, jointly executed by Assam Rifles and state police,
led to the arrest of one individual in Zokhawthar village. This decisive action
came following an intelligence tip, underscoring the collaborative efforts to
curb illicit activities in the region.
Continuing the anti-narcotics campaign, security forces confiscated 34.9 grams of heroin worth Rs 17.4 lakh from the Zemabawk area of Aizawl. A parallel arrest in this operation reinforces the authorities' commitment to dismantling drug networks. Notably, on January 12, Mizoram witnessed two separate anti-drug operations resulting in the seizure of narcotics valued at Rs 68.41 crore, with three arrests made.

In
a related development from December 2023, the Excise and Narcotics Department
successfully recovered over one lakh methamphetamine tablets worth more than Rs
1.27 crore from Mizoram's Khatla area. Two individuals were apprehended, and
the seized vehicle used for transporting the banned drugs highlighted the
department's vigilance. The recovery was based on intelligence inputs,
showcasing the strategic approach employed by law enforcement.
These operations contribute to Mizoram's ongoing efforts to combat the drug trade, ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents. The persistence of such activities necessitates continuous collaboration between agencies, exemplified by the joint operations at the India-Myanmar border and Aizawl.
