Strong Action by Khap Panchayats

75 Khap Panchayats primarily led by Farmers have issued an ultimatum ending on 9th of June 2023 for the arrest of WFI Chief, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The Khap Panchayats have also expressed that in case of failure to do so, a protest as large and widespread as the farmers’ protest of 2020 is likely to occur.

A farmer leader, Rakesh Tikait expressed, “We have been talking to the government. We’re trying to resolve this amicably. But if our demands are not heard, then the government should remember that our tractors are not taken on rent.” However, the government still remains adamant on its decision. A Khap member informed, “The government is willing to accept every demand, except that of Brij Bhushan’s arrest.”
