Union Home Minister Amit Shah took charge of the Regional Conference on 'Drugs Trafficking and National Security' on Monday, where he commended the efforts of states and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in eliminating 1,44,000 kilograms of drugs worth ₹2,378 crore. Shah urged all chief ministers and governors to follow suit and implement similar measures in their respective states.

During the conference, Shah emphasized the importance of raising awareness among the youth as the key to triumph in the battle against drugs. He stated, "The most significant step to win this fight is to create maximum awareness. Unless we spread awareness among the youth about the perils of drug abuse, we will not be able to emerge victorious."

Despite physically attending the conference in New Delhi, Amit Shah virtually observed the destruction of drugs in several states via video-conferencing.

Shah lauded the NDA government, led by Prime Minister Modi, for its resolute actions against the drug menace. Comparing the data from 2006 to 2013, when 1,250 cases were registered and 1.52 lakh kg of drugs were seized, Shah highlighted the progress made by the NDA government since it came into power in 2014. As of 2023, a total of 3,700 cases have been registered, resulting in the seizure of 3.94 lakh kg of drugs—a 160% increase in case registration and drug recovery.
