In Robbinsville, New Jersey, there’s a huge Hindu temple called BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham, which is the biggest in the United States. This Mahamndir, grand temple is a special place dedicated to Bhagwan Swaminarayan, a famous spiritual leader from the 19th century. It was built because of the inspiration from Pramukh Swami Maharaj, who was the 5th spiritual leader after Bhagwan Swaminarayan.

The grand temple, the Mahamandir, started building back in 2015. It’s going to be officially opened on October 8, 2023, with Mahant Swami Maharaj and important guests attending the ceremony.

The BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham in Robbinsville is a massive temple spread over 185 acres. What makes it even more incredible is that it was built by the hard work and dedication of over 12,500 volunteers from all across North America. These volunteers came together to create a remarkable landmark that will stand for over a thousand years.

Just like the other Akshardham temples in India, the design for this sacred place was made in India by a team of BAPS swamis and volunteers. They sourced the stone from various parts of Europe and sent it to India, where skilled artists carefully shaped it. Then, the stone was transported to the US, where volunteers from diverse backgrounds worked together to assemble it. It’s like putting together a gigantic puzzle, and that’s how the magnificent Mahamandir, or grand temple, was built.

The upcoming Inauguration of the BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham temple in Robbinsville, New Jersey, promises to be a grand affair, lasting a full week. It will be attended by notable guests, including US congressmen, senators, Biden Administration officials, and state governors.

The temple site Is in the final stages of completion, with finishing touches being applied to the ground level and the main mandir. The Mahashikhar, crowned by a graceful golden pot (Kalash), symbolizing completeness and perfection, stands tall. Above it, the flag (Dhaja) flies proudly, representing victory and the triumph of good over evil.

The current record holder for the world’s largest comprehensive Hindu temple is the BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham temple in New Delhi, India, covering a 100-acre complex. However, the Akshardham temple in the US is set to surpass this record. Remarkably, the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha has constructed about 1,400 temples worldwide, spanning India, the UK, US, Canada, Kenya, South Africa, and Australia.
