In a significant development for Bangladesh cricket, the renowned pace bowling coach, Allan Donald, is poised to conclude his coaching tenure after the culmination of the World Cup 2023. The imminent departure comes as Bangladesh falls short of reaching the tournament's semifinals, with the last match against Australia marking Donald's final coaching stint with the team.

Acknowledging Donald's decision, a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official disclosed that the coach communicated his departure during a team meeting, affirming that the conclusion of the World Cup would also mark the conclusion of his contract. Notably, Donald had previously extended his contract following the T20 World Cup last year.

The coaching transition is accompanied by some internal friction, notably Donald expressing dissatisfaction with star player Shakib Al Hasan for not withdrawing a timed-out appeal against Angelo Mathews in a recent match against Sri Lanka. Donald's disapproval extended to the point of contemplating walking onto the field, citing a misalignment between the team's values and the skipper's actions.

This discontent found its way into the public domain through an interview with Donald, prompting the BCB to seek an explanation from the departing coach regarding his comments on Shakib and the mentioned incident. Donald, in response, remained nonchalant, stating that the explanation was already conveyed through the news.

As Bangladesh faces Australia in their final World Cup encounter, the team looks to navigate a transition phase with an eye on the Champions Trophy 2025 qualification. With Sri Lanka's recent loss, the Tigers need to ensure they don't succumb to Australia by a significant margin to keep their hopes alive for the upcoming tournament.

This coaching shift signifies a turning point for Bangladesh cricket, marking the end of Allan Donald's impactful tenure and paving the way for a new chapter in the team's journey.
