Ajit Pawar and NCP Faction Meet Sharad Pawar

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, along with his faction of National Congress Party (NCP) leaders, held a meeting with NCP Chief Sharad Pawar on Sunday to discuss party unity.

The meeting took place two weeks after the rebellion within the NCP, which resulted in Ajit Pawar and other leaders being inducted into the Maharashtra cabinet. The ministers who recently joined the government led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde were also present.

During the meeting, the rebel leaders requested Sharad Pawar to consider options to keep the party united. Praful Patel, NCP's working president, stated that they sought Pawar's blessings and expressed their desire for party unity. The meeting lasted for about half an hour.

Jayant Patil, the state unit chief of NCP, confirmed that the rebel faction expressed regrets for their rebellion. He mentioned that the Sharad Pawar faction has the support of 19 MLAs and expressed openness to the rebels returning to the party.

In a separate development, Ajit Pawar was assigned the crucial finance and planning portfolio in the cabinet reshuffle. This move marks his return to the finance ministry, a position he held in the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government led by Uddhav Thackeray. Ajit Pawar had joined the Shinde faction by gaining the support of 29 NCP MLAs, while 19 MLAs remained loyal to Sharad Pawar.

This meeting between Sharad Pawar and the Ajit Pawar-led faction was the first since Ajit Pawar rebelled against his uncle and joined the Shinde-led government on July 2. Ajit Pawar also visited Silver Oak, the residence of Sharad Pawar, to meet his wife Pratibha Pawar, who recently underwent surgery.

The meeting signifies a crucial attempt to address the internal rift within the NCP and seek a way forward for party unity in Maharashtra's political landscape.
