While defending itself from
Russia’s intense air attack, Ukraine shot down 18 missiles that were aimed at
Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital, on Tuesday.
Fortunately, Kyiv Mayor Vitali
Klitschko reported that there were no casualties caused by the attack, but
debris set cars and a non-residential building on fire.
Air Force spokesman Yurii Ihnat, whose statement was
released on Telegram, stated that the 18 missiles that were launched were of
various kinds, including ballistic missiles, drones, and cruise missiles, all
of which were intercepted. In order to overpower Kyiv’s air defences, Russia
launched this attack on the capital through air, land as well as sea routes.
While giving details of the missiles, Ihnat stated that 6
'Kinzhal' aero-ballistic missiles were launched from MiG-31K aircraft, 3 land-based
S-400 cruise missiles targeted the capital and 9 cruise missiles from ships in the Black Sea. In addition to these, Iranian-made Shahed attack drones were also launched at Kyivand Russia also conducted aerial reconnaissance.
The head of the Kyiv military administration, Serhii Popko, has described this attack as "exceptional in its density, the maximum number of attacking missiles in the shortest period of time". Melinda Simmons, the British ambassador to Ukraine, wrote on Twitter, that the attack was "pretty intense." She added, "Bangs and shaking walls are not an easy night."
The situation seems to be out of hand as this is the eighth time this month that such an attack on Kyiv has taken place. It indicates that the conflict is intensifying and it might witness a full-fledged retaliation from the side of Ukraine, which has now garnered the support as well as additionally promised military aid of Europe after President Volodymyr Zelenksyy’s trip.
The world now awaits to see what
will be Kyiv’s retaliatory action.
