 Pope's Message

At the end of the service he even thanked the people for praying when he was ill, on

which the crowd drew a loud applause. "I thank you for your participation and also for

your prayers, which intensified during these past days. Thank you."

In the mass thousands of people had come who waved palm and olive branches as

Pope Francis sitting in the back of a white, open topped vehicle was driven into St.

Peter's square.

What Had Happened to the Pope?

On Wednesday, the Pope had complained of some breathing issues following which

he was taken to Gemelli Hospital. The 86 year old, though, didn't have to be

admitted for long and recovered fast with the help of antibiotics. He returned to his

residence in Vatican City on Saturday.

With the Easter season fast approaching, the Vatican was looking to allay issues

concerning his health as the Easter events being the busiest period in the Roman

Catholic Church which starts with the open-air Palm Sunday Service.

In recent years, the pontiff has suffered from various ailments including severe knee

pain because of which he is either using a cane or on wheelchair in his public

appearances. These issues in mobility limit his participation in various public events.

However, the mass on Easter Sunday is expected to be graced by the Pope, he

being the head of 1.4 billion Roman Catholics, where he will read the "Itni et Orbi"

message to the city and the world. Easter Sunday is the most important day of the

Christian liturgical calendar.

He will also celebrate Mass of Holy Thursday with juveniles, who are in prison in

Rome but his participation in the Good Friday Via Crucis procession around Rome's

ancient Colosseum is still not clear.
